Kart Driving Tips - Be a Better Driver...
Rogue Racing's Track in Aylesbury is demanding, there are 8 competitive turns, two of which are hairpins through which both time and positions can be lost... The current track record is 25.72 seconds!
It's not all about foot to the floor driving, careful positioning of the kart and choosing the right line is what will make you a champion. The correct point to brake and just how hard to brake is as important as taking the corners cleanly - if you're of heavier build, acceleration will not be as great as those who are smaller & lighter, so taking advantage of your speed through a corner rather than braking and having to accelerate again will help. Can you out-brake your fellow drivers without crashing into the tyre wall? Find that ideal balance and you're on your way to being a winner!
General Karting Tips
- Drive smoothly - sudden movements will upset the balance of the kart and grip will be lost
- Brake in a straight line - braking whilst cornering will result in loss of grip and can cause the kart to spin out
- Use all the track - exiting a corner in as straight a line as possible reduces time
- Clean overtaking - don't bump & barge your way past another kart, pick your overtaking place carefully
- Heavy braking - brake too hard and the wheels will lock causing a slide and loss of control
- DO NOT use both pedals together - you gain no advantage of braking whilst using the accelerator pedal, you may burn out the clutch
